illuminate. Captivate. inspire. influence.

The power of words. Copy and content writing to achieve anything.

Yes, we live in a visual age… and while I’m the first to advocate for images, for me, words are more relevant than ever.

Words compliment, illuminate and enhance images. As a former broadcast and video journalist, I know that words and pictures have a unique relationship. Words explain and simplify; they create connection and mutual understanding. Words transport us, allow us to escape, and ignite dreams. They draw out unique selling points and position brands to encourage loyalty; they shine a light on the messages we need others to hear. Words can persuade, influence and drive change. Whether written or spoken; providing a subtle nudge or demanding immediate attention, they have to be carefully selected, placed and arranged. That’s where I can help. Blending the craft of content and copywriting with expertise on SEO, I’ll help you communicate your message and improve your Google ranking. From the explanatory to the persuasive; websites to paid social advertising; fitness, fashion and fundraising to hospitality and travel: I will create copy and written content designed to exceed your goals.

15 years of EXPERIENCE

I’ve always enjoyed the craft of placing words for a purpose. An English literature graduate, my early jobs included writing TV listings for Heat Magazine and the Daily Scotsman, working as a freelance content writer for music and travel magazines, and creating blog content to drive traffic for community forums. That was way back in 2008. As a journalist, I’ve since written hundreds of news articles, audio scripts, radio bulletins and voice overs. And as a digital marketer, I now create brand and marketing copy, web and blog content, and provide copywriting for digital advertising. I teach students on my degree programme in Social Media Management at the University of Sunderland copywriting and content creation techniques and approaches from the traditional to the cutting-edge; the practical to the theoretical. If you want powerful written content that engages and converts, let’s start a conversation.

What’s the difference between a copywriter and a content writer?

Copywriters and content writers are both professionals who create written content, but they serve different purposes and have distinct roles in the world of content creation.

Copywriters primarily focus on writing persuasive and attention-grabbing content with the goal of driving a specific action, such as making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or clicking on an ad. Their primary aim is to convert readers into customers or take a specific desired action. They often use persuasive and emotionally engaging language to create compelling marketing materials. Their writing is concise, impactful, and geared towards achieving a specific call to action (CTA).

Content writers focus on creating informative, educational, or entertaining content that provides value to the audience. Their primary goal is to inform, engage, and educate rather than directly promote a product or service. They produce longer, in-depth articles, blog posts, whitepapers, case studies, and other forms of content that provide valuable information, insights, or entertainment. Their writing is often more educational and less focused on persuasion.

Thankfully, I do both, so I can help you work out exactly what you need.
